70s icon Gary Glitter has been revealed as the top billing for this year’s Christmas lights switch on at Cheshire Oaks.

The McArthurGlen owned designer outlet revealed the news yesterday, together with other details about the ceremony, including the all-important date. The lights will be switched on by the cult singer on November 8th, and the event will be hosted by Radio City Breakfast Show regulars Leanne and Dave.

Comeback kid Gary Glitter will then take to the stage for some of his classic tracks, before switching on 100,000 lights around 8pm.

The event often attracts big names to Ellesmere Port – such as former X-Factor winners Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry, and occasionally some X-Factor contestants who were eliminated from the live shows, such as Ben Mills, and the X-Factor vocal coach Yvie Burnett.

Gary Glitter performing and switching on the lights represents a major coup for the organisers, as he was once an A-list celebrity.

What do the Bugle’s readers think of Gary Glitter performing in Ellesmere Port? Will you be turning out to see him? Do you want to be in his gang?

  2. I’m horrified at the thought of Gary Glitter turning the lights on at EP ….. I was at a recording of a Cheggers Plays Pop episode. What a wrongan !

  3. Great choice and good luck to the lad. He’s served his time and we could all do with a bit more ‘glitter’ this Christmas – after the year we’ve had!
