The recent flooding of Venice, Italy, has been blamed on a ‘lack of common sense’ on the part of the Venetians by Tory MP, Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Rees-Mogg, the Leader of the House of Commons, has stated that Venice is to blame for the second worst flooding the city has ever seen due its poor common sense in having so much water in the first place.

The flooding is the worst Venice has seen for 50 years.

The city of Venice, famed for its canals, gondolas and glass shops, is currently flooded with over 80% of the city under water, including the famed St Mark’s Square. All of this could have been avoided, said Rees-Mogg, had the city just shown some common sense.

In an interview Rees-Mogg commented:

Had I been the city of Venice I would have shown common sense and got rid of all that water. None of this would have happened then.

Rees-Mogg added:

I would have had nanny mop it all up and dry it off.

According to reports, this only the third stupidest thing Rees-Mogg has said today, and it’s barely lunch time.
