Lionel Messi, now a free agent after his contract with FC Barcelona expired at the end of June, is looking at possible clubs for the 2021/22 season, and he has refused to rule out playing for Ellesmere Port Town FC, currently in the West Cheshire Division 1 league.
Messi, now aged 34, is still considered one of the best players in world football and would surely be in contention for game time should he join the Wirral District FA Senior Cup champions, Ellesmere Port Town FC.
Messi has played for FC Barcelona since joining the team as a 13-year-old, and he made his debut for the club at aged just 17. Last summer Messi was the subject of transfer speculation after announcing he wanted to leave the club, but that ended when he remained for the final year of his contract.
With his contract now expired, Messi is a free agent and can sign for any club he wishes, including Ellesmere Port Town FC. With Ellesmere Port Town ending the 2020/21 season with silverware, after lifting the Wirral District FA Senior Cup, they’re exactly the sort of team Messi would be interested in, according to sources.
The Chester Bugle contacted Messi’s representatives for comment, asking if the rumours were true, and they refused to answer – remaining tight-lipped on the proposed move of Messi to Ellesmere Port.
@TeamMessi will Leo be signing for Ellesmere Port Town FC for next season?

This is one transfer story that will run and run until Messi’s future is finally decided, but seeing the former 6-time Ballon d’Or winner playing at Whitby Sports and Social Club for Ellesmere Port Town FC would surely bring in the crowds next season.
