Gender campaigners have won a battle to force an Ellesmere Port gym to ditch its outdated ‘male’ and ‘female’ changing rooms in favour of non-gender specific ones.

The campaign’s aim was to put an end to the labelling people faced by being classified as one gender or another. Now, when anyone uses the changing rooms for the gym in Ellesmere Port, they’ll be able to use a non-gender defined changing room that is suitable for those of any gender, or a non-classified gender.

The changing rooms won’t alienate anyone who identifies with being a male or a female either, as everyone will use the same gender-neutral changing rooms.

Gym goer Dave Longrod (pictured) wasn’t initially in agreement with the gender neutral changing rooms, but he has since come around to them.

At first I thought it was a stupid idea but, after going a few times, I realise now we all have bodies and we shouldn’t be labelled by what bits stick out. It gets a big thumbs up from me.

Louise Bush, from Little Sutton, was equally enthused about the new set up.

I got to see lots of willies!

The gender neutral changing rooms are a trial and, if successful, will be rolled out to gyms across the country later in the year.
