A recent survey of 2,000 Ellesmere Port residents has uncovered that 125% of people have no idea how percentages work.
The survey was conducted in the Port Arcades and town centre in the run up to Christmas, by marketing firm Yellow Pig.
The marketers had a list of questions they asked Ellesmere Port shoppers, to gauge their understanding of percentages – something most primary school children should have a firm grasp of.
The results of the survey were deeply shocking, however, as it was revealed how little Ellesmere Port residents know about percentages.
Kevin Jones, a student at West Cheshire College, was one of the residents surveyed. After completing the survey, he commented:
F*cked if I know how percentages work pal. When am I ever gonna need that anyway?
Kevin then headed off to Brighthouse, to buy a TV at 69.9% APR, and at 400% the cost of the same model at Curry’s.
Adrian Dempsey, from marketing firm Yellow Pig, commented about the findings.
The findings are incredibly scary, and show the poor standard of education across the UK, and especially in Ellesmere Port. For 125% of people to not understand percentages is disgusting.
